Magnus is the Swedish-American Senior Designer at Mako Design + Invent. The pioneering firm to provide end-to-end physical product development for startups and small businesses. Influenced by his international upbringing, Magnus has always been pragmatic in his approach to the design process and enjoys mentoring new designers and non-designers alike on how successfully to bring a product from an initial thumbnail sketch to the final product on the shelves.

His career started at Studio RD after graduation from the Mdes Transportation design course at Coventry University in 2004. There he worked on the interior design of several private aircraft and other luxury retreats, including Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal’s personal 747.

Applying what he learned from that experience at TXS design, Magnus was responsible for multiple aircraft seating designs, including several modular design patents for IFE integration. American Airlines still flies with business class seats that Magnus styled 13 years ago.

Throughout his career, Magnus has worked on a diverse range of products, including telecommunication equipment, toys, pet products, an EMP-proof phone, and under-carpet power distribution in offices. Most notably, however, was his work with Dell to execute the final design for the 14G Enterprise level styling in two weeks’ time in conjunction with the merger with EMC.

With 13 years of experience under his belt, Magnus felt ready to pursue his growing interest in design thinking, user experience, and how to improve design as a service. In 2018, Magnus launched his own design studio, Magnus by Design. Here, he learned the complex art of balancing business objectives and creative freedom. As Magnus’ business grew, the leadership team at Mako Design began to take great interest in Magnus’ pursuits. As a design firm that focuses on small businesses, startups, and other clients who traditionally may not have access to industrial design services, Magnus was just the type of experienced designer the team at Mako was looking for.

Fast forward to today in his current position at Mako, Magnus shares his learnings with clients about the challenges and joy that comes from starting and growing a business organically. He offers a unique angle by combining his savvy product design thinking and business acumen to help ensure clients meet their bottom line with beautiful, well-functioning products.

When he is not sketching out ideas during client meetings he enjoys experimenting with midjourney and other forms of AI.
